The second edition of the Numan Beach Volleyball Tournament ended with Taraba’s Next Tsaraba teams picking both male and female gold medals.
The tournament, which took place at the Beach Sandy courts of Government Secondary School, Numan, erupted in cheers during the thrilling final matches.
The tournament, described as the best outing so far, saw intense competition from twelve male and six female teams vying for top honours.
In a fiercely contested male final, Next Tsaraba Male Beach Volleyball Team of Jalingo overcame a resilient challenge from the Night Workers team of Yola, Adamawa State.
The champions secured victory in a gripping three-set encounter (21-19, 18-21, 15-10) to claim the gold medal and championship trophy. The bronze medal in the male category was clinched by the Hunters of Jalingo, who defeated the Rockets team two sets to one.
The female category witnessed a commanding performance by Next Tsaraba of Jalingo, who swept to victory with a straight-sets win (2-0) over the Zaky Queens of Yola while Future Vollers secured the third-place position on the podium.
The closing ceremony was a festive affair, with trophies and cash awards presented to the deserving winners amidst cheers and celebrations from supporters.
The event was graced by the Chairman of the National Beach Volleyball Commission, DCP Steven Hasso (rtd), who delivered a message from the National President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod.
He commended the high standard of performance exhibited by all teams adding that Beach Volleyball has come to stay in the north east region of Nigeria.
Hasso declared intensifying efforts to expand the coverage of the game at the grassroots level to discover and nurture more talent.
The Chairman of Numan Local Government Council, Hon. Innocent Koto, in his speech, advocated for a holistic approach to the sport and emphasized the dual benefit of youth participation in sports for both physical well-being and economic empowerment.
The successful tournament has cemented Numan’s growing reputation as a hub for beach volleyball in the Northeast, with promises of an even larger and more competitive third edition.
