A novelty football match was held on Friday in Yola as part of activities leading to the turbaning of the Adamawa State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji, as Marafa Adamawa.
The friendly match, played at the Yola North Model School Football Pitch in Jimeta, featured teams from Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas and ended in a 1–1 draw.
Team Yola South took the lead within the first 30 minutes of the game, while Yola North equalised less than five minutes into the second half through a penalty kick.
The match attracted a large turnout of spectators, including the Marafa Adamawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji, government officials, politicians, friends, well-wishers, and football enthusiasts.
Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji is scheduled to be turbaned as Marafa Adamawa on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Lamido of Adamawa’s Palace in Yola. The ceremony will be performed by His Royal Highness, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustafa, the Lamido of Adamawa.
