The Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr Sulaiman Saidu Bashir, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions to the improvement of primary healthcare services across the state.
The award was presented to the chairman by the board members of the ASPHCDA at the agency’s headquarters in Yola on Friday.

Leading other board members for the presentation, the permanent member one, Mr Adams Simon described the recognition as a testament to the agency’s steady progress under the stewardship of Dr. Bashir.
He acknowledged the chairman’s leadership and commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Responding, Dr Sulaiman Saidu Bashir expressed delight with the award, saying it will spur him to put more commitment to improved service delivery at the agency.
Since the appointment of Dr Bashir, ASPHCDA has recorded notable achievements in line with the development agenda of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, which prioritises inclusive growth and equitable service delivery. These efforts have significantly transformed the state’s primary healthcare system.
Within less than two years, the Adamawa State Government, through the agency, has rehabilitated and constructed over 80 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state. Many of the facilities are located in hard-to-reach areas where access to basic healthcare services was previously limited.
Officials explained that the newly completed centres go beyond infrastructure development, as they represent renewed access to healthcare, improved service delivery, and enhanced dignity for residents who once struggled to obtain medical attention.
The projects form part of a wider state-wide initiative aimed at equipping all 226 political wards in Adamawa with modern, solar-powered Primary Healthcare Centres, each supported with staff quarters to encourage effective service provision at the grassroots.
So far, more than 80 centres fitted with solar energy systems and residential accommodation for health workers have been completed and fully funded by the Adamawa State Government.
Government sources revealed that additional updates, including photographs and testimonials from beneficiaries, would be made public in the coming days to further showcase the impact of the intervention on local communities.
