The Adamawa state government has urged 21 council chairmen and stakeholders in the education sector to champion children’s enrolment in the state.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, made the appeal at a meeting chaired by the state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta.

Garba said the meeting is necessary to reflect on the achievements recorded by the government in its developmental and transformational drive, thereby renewing commitment to delivering services to the people as the year 2026 continues to set in.

He added that as a government that prioritizes education, which is a catalyst to human and societal development, it has also transferred the ownership of schools to local government chairmen, to ensure that learning takes place in a safe, secure, and conducive atmosphere.

As such, the government, he said, directed them to champion school enrolment across the state, to ensure children are enrolled in school.

This, according to him, would spur government sustainability on the ongoing provision of infrastructure and facilities for learning.

He reemphasized that free and compulsory education is a right of every child in Adamawa, hence the need for parent and guardians to enroll their children in school.

The Commissioner further used the avenue to inform parents and guardians that schools have resumed and academic activities have already started on 5th January, 2026.

Earlier, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Yahyaji Mijinyawa acknowledged government transformational initiatives in the education sector, highlighting the importance of enrolling children into these schools, especially the newly constructed model schools across the 21 local government areas.

The chairman of Song local government area, who is also the ALGON secretary, Idris Yahya, expressed commitment to work towards implementing the policy and programmes of government in all areas of human endeavour.
