Red Cross Bauchi Seek For Humanitarian Support From Individuals

The Bauchi State chapter of the Red Cross Nigeria has appealed to individuals to support its humanitarian efforts with whatever resources they can spare.

The State Chairman Alhaji Aminu Abubakar, made the appeal in his speech to mark this year’s World Red Cross Day.

According to the Chairman this support is crucial to enable the organization continue making a positive impact on people’s lives.

Speaking with Albarka Radio correspondent on the occasion, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar enumerated various forms of support and humanitarian services that the organization provides to victims of floods, fire outbreaks, accidents, and other disasters.

He emphasized that the Red Cross Nigeria relies heavily on International donations and support from philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to continue its life-saving work.

Aminu Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the team of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly day and night to assist victims of disasters and accidents, saying that their sacrifices can only be rewarded by God.

He also acknowledged the organization’s commitment to neutrality, impartiality, and humanity, and reiterated its dedication to serving vulnerable communities.

The theme for World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2024 is “I give with joy, and the joy I give is a reward”.

Red Cross Day is set aside to pay tribute to millions of volunteers and staff working to provide aid to people in need of protection, healthcare, social services and solidarity.

Flooding: Taraba Environment Commissioner, Barde Calls On Residents To Remove Obstacles In Waterways

Honorable Aishat Barde, the Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change in Taraba State has issued an advisory to stakeholders and residents residing in riverine areas to exercise vigilance and take requisite measures in removing obstacles in waterways. 

Barde spoke to Premium Reporters and SAHEL REPORTERS on Wednesday 17th April 2024 via telephone.

The aforementioned advisory is in response to the recent prediction of possible flooding in Taraba State and thirty other states of the federation between April and November, which is attributed to unpredictable climate shifts occurring in the region.

The Commissioner has advocated that communities that are likely to be affected should maintain their composure and abstain from panicking as the government is committed to providing relief materials and temporary measures to assist in emergencies.

Additionally, Honorable Aishat Barde has advised farmers to exercise caution during this period to mitigate potential risks associated with the rising water levels.

Furthermore, the Commissioner has emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of climate change to effectively combat its effects.

 “Climate Change is real, and the message is clear – the challenges of climate change are upon us, and it is crucial to collectively work towards reducing the factors that contribute to its detrimental impact,” Barde added.

Taraba Environment Commissioner Sympathizes With Victims Of Takum Windstorm

Hon. Aishat Barde, the Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change in Taraba State, has expressed her sympathy to the victims of Tuesday’s windstorm which destroyed several houses in Takum LGA of the State.

In a statement released to the press, Barde described the tragedy as a natural disaster, which should serve as a wake-up call for collective responsibility to nurture and protect the environment for future generations.

Barde emphasized the need for everyone to seize the opportunity within this tragedy to reinforce their commitment to safeguarding communities and take proactive measures to prevent future disasters. 

She also stressed that planting trees would foster stability in ecosystems and shield communities from such natural disasters.

The Commissioner further expressed her sympathy for the victims and their families, as well as the entire people of Takum LGA. 

It is worth noting that Governor Agbu Kefas visited the affected places in Takum on Wednesday, 3 April 2024, and promised to assist the victims in rebuilding their houses.

Gov Kefas Visits Takum As Storm Destroys Over 100 Houses

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reassured residents of Takum that the government would find ways to support efforts to rebuild homes destroyed by a storm that occurred on Tuesday evening.

A statement released to the press by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications said Kefas gave the assurance on Wednesday during his visit to the area. 

it was recalled that a heavy downpour had destroyed several houses on Tuesday, rendering many residents homeless.

The statement further read that in a swift response, Dr. Kefas first dispatched a team of state officials to visit Takum and assess the damage. 

They were mandated to take stock of all the damages proffer the best ways to handle the immediate situation and provide ways to stop any future occurrences.

Later in the day, Governor Kefas visited Takum to get a first-hand report of the damages. 

While going around some of the affected areas of the city, the governor made many stops to sympathize with victims and offer words of encouragement.

Furthermore, meeting with community leaders and residents, the governor assured them of the government’s readiness to support efforts at rebuilding their damaged homes. 

Elated residents of Takum, who had filed out on the streets to welcome the governor, expressed their appreciation for the prompt action. 

They further commended the efforts of the administration, stressing their preparedness to partner with Dr. Kefas in the rebuilding activities. The statement concluded on this note.
