As part of its ongoing disaster response in the North East, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has extended vital humanitarian assistance to residents of Yola South Local Government Area affected by recent floods.
Communities in Shagari, Sabon Pegi, and Anguwan Tabo received much-needed food and non-food items from the Commission, following severe flooding that displaced many households and disrupted local livelihoods.
The intervention was spearheaded by the Adamawa State Coordinator of the NEDC, Barr. Khalifa M. Lawan, who represented the Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed G. Alkali. Addressing the beneficiaries, Lawan conveyed the Commission’s deep concern and pledged continued support for immediate relief and long-term recovery.
“We recognize your pain and stand with you. This support is just one of the many steps we are taking to ease your burden,” he assured.
The Director of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Mrs. Lawuri, received the relief items on behalf of the state government. She lauded the NEDC’s swift and responsive gesture, noting its significance in easing the suffering of the displaced.
Among the distributed items were cartons of Indomie noodles, packets of spaghetti, and essential non-food items such as mats, blankets, and mosquito nets—supplies tailored to the urgent needs of affected families.
Grateful residents and local leaders expressed appreciation for the intervention.
“This gesture brings us a sense of hope,” one recipient shared. “It shows that we’re not forgotten during this hardship.”
The NEDC reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting communities across the region, emphasizing that its role goes beyond immediate relief to long-term rebuilding and resilience efforts.
