The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), in collaboration with the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board (BSPHCB), successfully conducted a 13-day training program for 1,088 frontline healthcare workers spanning across all 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.
The training initiative, which took place from August 14 to August 26, 2025, aimed to bolster primary healthcare delivery by equipping participants with updated skills and knowledge in patient care.
Speaking at the close-out ceremony held at one of the training centers in Bauchi, Alhaji Madugu Suleiman, State Coordinator of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), stated that the training had been instrumental in equipping healthcare workers with enhanced skills and innovative techniques for patient care.

He further commended the Federal Government’s initiative, under the current leadership of Prof Muhammad Ali Pateh, and the NPHCDA for providing the necessary resources, particularly updated training manuals, quality training tutors, and facilitators, to effectively conduct the training in the state.
Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board (BSPHCB), Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, visited one of the training venues in Bauchi Local Government Area, where he encouraged all participants to apply the knowledge they gained and put it into practice.
He emphasized that for health workers to stay current, such training is pertinent to update their knowledge, develop new skills, and strategies.

Dr. Mohammed noted that throughout the 14-day training period, focus had been on improving skills to prevent maternal, newborn, and child deaths in the state.
He believed that the refresher training has always been essential if it includes practical sessions covering clinical domains, disease outbreak prevention, maternal and child nutrition services, integrated healthcare services, basic emergency obstetrics and newborn care, immunizations, hygiene practices, community engagement, and health information.
The training targets healthcare providers in clinical practice as part of a routine initiative to update their knowledge based on current standards.

The training was designed specifically for frontline health providers, including doctors, nurses, midwives, Community Health Extension Workers, and other personnel providing clinical services in publicly owned primary healthcare facilities.
According to the training guidelines, these programs aim to equip essential personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver quality healthcare services effectively in primary care settings.

These programs focus on strengthening capacity, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and improving frontline workers’ ability to diagnose and treat cases. Training initiatives are crucial for enhancing public health responses and managing health emergencies effectively.
The NPHCDA in collaboration with the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board jointly facilitated the 13 day training programme in multiple centres covering different domains of PHC services.
