Taraba Govt To Pay Salaries To Medical Students

The Taraba Government has said it would place its medical students on full salaries rather than the hitherto stipends.

 Dr Hamidu Kara, Head of Service of the state made this known on Thursday during an interactive session between a team of United Kingdom-based Healthcare Experts in Jalingo.

Kara said that students in the 100 and 200 levels would receive salaries of grade level five (GL5) while those in 300 to 500 levels would receive salaries of grade level seven (GL 7), ranging from N100,000 to N130,000 respectively.

He stated that the measure was to improve manpower for the health care sector in the state.

According to him, the government is committed to producing high-quality healthcare professionals, including nurses who can compete globally. 

“We have agreed to operate on a zonal level, and plans are underway to extend support to medical students through the payment of monthly salaries,” he said.

The delegation, led by Dr. Chichi Menakaya, Founder of Annomo Health, said their mission was to collaborate with the State Government to strengthen healthcare delivery and infrastructure across the state.

Menakaya commended Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba’s leadership and commitment to improving healthcare access for residents. 

“The passion of Governor Agbu Kefas is driven by his mission to enhance the healthcare of the people.

“And due to his dedication, the people of Taraba are motivated to pursue better health outcomes since healthcare is the foundation for everything,” she said.

Menakaya explained that her team would embark on both medium and long-term intervention programmes to upgrade facilities and build the necessary manpower to sustain the governor’s vision.

In his remark, Dr Garba Danjuma, Executive Secretary, Taraba State Health Services Management Board, thanked the governor for collaborating with ANNOMO Health foundation, saying that the five years partnership would bring development to the state.
