Bauchi Govt Approves Strategic Renaming Of Bauchi Oil And Gas Academy Alkaleri For Global Competitiveness

……….Appoints Muhammad Shehu Mammaji As New Chief Security Officer

The Bauchi State Government has officially approved the renaming of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri (BOGAA) to Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, Bauchi State (OGAABS).

This strategic rebranding aims to strengthen the institution’s visibility, enhance its competitiveness, and boost its global positioning.

The approval was announced during a press briefing with journalists by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Hon. Muhammad Maiwada, held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall on Tuesday 18th November 2025.

According to the management, the former name placed “Bauchi” as the initial reference point, creating an unintended perception of the Academy as a narrowly localized institution. The new name—Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, Bauchi State (OGAABS)—presents the Academy as a professional, government-backed training centre with broader national significance and international appeal.

The renaming is part of ongoing efforts to align the Academy with national and global standards in oil and gas education, attract high-quality partnerships and funding, and expand opportunities for students, industry experts, and collaborators both within and outside Nigeria.

Management further noted that the updated identity will strengthen the Academy’s brand projection, improve recognition in international engagements, and reaffirm Bauchi State’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce for Nigeria’s expanding energy sector.

In the same development, the Commissioner also announced the approval of Shehu Muhammad (Mammaji), a former Chief Superintendent of Customs, as the new Chief Security Officer of the Academy.

The Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, Bauchi State, remains committed to providing world-class capacity-building programmes, technical training, and professional development aimed at empowering young people and advancing Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The Commissioner expressed appreciation on behalf of the Academy and the Ministry to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, for his unwavering support toward the success of the institution. He also commended the State Legislature for considering and approving the bill promptly, and prayed for continued progress for the Academy, Bauchi State, and Nigeria at large.
