Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has said that President Bola Tinubu is a listening President, urging him to look into the tax reform bill holistically.
Mohammed stated this in Bauchi on Wednesday shortly before the commencement of the State Executive Council (SEC)’s meeting.
It could be recalled that the President and the Federal Executive Council recently sponsored a bill to restructure and streamline tax processes, establish a unified revenue service, and simplify financial obligations for businesses and citizens.
However, Mohammed said that the tax reform would be inimical to Bauchi state and other Northern states that don’t have headquarters of major companies generating revenues.
“We have seen manifestations at the national level which have concomitant implications to us and that is the issue of tax reform and other initiatives which we have to start thinking within the box.
“It is against us, it is not going to favour us because we have made efforts to look at it and at the end of the day, we will just become consumers or onlookers in the federation of Nigeria.
“We are urging our President and indeed all leaders to look at it holistically. I know as politicians, we are out to serve everyone and I know Mr President is a listening president.
“He will look at it so that at the end of the day, we will not have cause to be too concerned especially, those of us that are not manufacturing, those of us as states that don’t have headquarters of the major companies and all the organizations that are generating revenue,” he said.
Mohammed also called on all the members of the State Executive Council to look inward into the projects and programmes on their table so as not to be left out.
He urged them to press ourselves maximally in the various challenges positively so as to be able to make the state better.
