Under the visionary leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the health sector in Adamawa State has witnessed a transformative revival, a stark contrast to the neglect it suffered under previous administrations. In every government, two sectors stand as pillars that either define progress or signal regression—health and education. These are the bedrock of societal well-being, and in Adamawa State, Governor Fintiri has taken monumental strides, especially in health, to ensure no citizen is left behind.

Upon assuming office, Governor Fintiri wasted no time addressing the state’s healthcare deficiencies. Acknowledging the critical need for primary healthcare across the 226 wards, his administration took the bold step of paying counterpart funding to the Saving One Million
Lives (SOML) initiative. This enabled the construction of fully functional Primary HealthCare Centres in every ward—a significant leap from the previous situation where nearly 200 wards lacked such essential facilities. Today, thanks to his leadership, all 226 wards boast of a
Primary Health Care Centre, with some even having two.

Governor Fintiri’s commitment to enhancing healthcare goes beyond primary care. The construction of five state-of-the-art, 60-bed capacity cottage hospitals across the state’s three geopolitical zones stands as a testament to his administration’s resolve to improve healthcare infrastructure.

These hospitals, located in Demsa, Lamurde, Gombi, Girei, and Shelleng, are equipped to provide high-quality care to the people of Adamawa. Additionally, the governor took over the 4 decade abandoned Dumne Cottage hospital complex upgrading and completing the project. Same with the Guyuk Cottage Hospital. The revolution did not stop there, but has continued with major improvements in Mubi, Numan, Mayo Belwa, Ganye, Jada Michika and Fufore General Hospitals.

Not only has Governor Fintiri focused on the infrastructure, but he has also ensured that these facilities are equipped with the necessary resources to function efficiently. Recently, his administration awarded contracts for the installation of 30KVA Hybrid Solar Systems in key hospitals,
including Guyuk, Shelleng, Demsa, Lamurde, Gombi, and Fufore. This innovation ensures uninterrupted power supply, guaranteeing that patient care, particularly in critical moments, remains unhindered.

Further solidifying his commitment to specialized healthcare, the governor established a fully equipped dialysis complex at Yola Specialist Hospital.
This facility, which offers free dialysis services, provides vital support for patients with kidney-related issues, reducing both their physical and financial burden. Similarly, the construction of an Infectious Disease Center and a state-of-the-art Laboratory Complex specializing in
public health, virology, and bacteriology underscores the administration’s proactive approach to managing public health crises.

Recognizing the importance of manpower in healthcare, Governor Fintiri’s administration has employed over 4,000 health workers to man the newly
built and upgraded facilities, ensuring that the state’s healthcare infrastructure is adequately supported by skilled professionals.

Furthermore, his government has introduced policies that alleviate the healthcare burden on vulnerable populations. Treatment for children under five, the elderly aged 65 and above, and delivery services in government-owned health facilities are now entirely free,
ensuring that the most vulnerable in the state have access to quality healthcare without financial hardship.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration has truly set a new standard for healthcare in Adamawa State. His achievements in just five years reflect a genuine commitment to the well-being of his people, reshaping the health sector into one that not only meets present needs
but also sets the foundation for a healthier, more prosperous future.
