On Friday, April 11, 2025, special prayers were held by several Islamic scholars at the TY Danjuma Government House Jumma’at Masjid to commemorate the 2025 Nuj Press Week in Taraba State.

The resilience, selfless service, and commitment to the welfare of its members demonstrated by the Taraba State Council under the leadership of Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen is commendable.

The Press Week, organized by the council, reflects Jen’s executives’ determination to strengthen unity and appreciate members of the prestigious journalism profession for their hard work in the state.

The council’s Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee for the event, Adamu Also of NTA Jalingo, led a team of Muslim journalists in attendance at the special Friday prayer.

Notable attendees included Hon. Abubakar Bawa, Chairman of the Taraba State People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Hamidu Ahmed Kara, the State Head of the Civil Service, and Engr. Lawan Sanya, the General Manager of Shinmo FM, among others.

It is worth noting that such an event has not taken place in Taraba State for over ten years, and credit goes to the current NUJ leadership for continuing the efforts of their predecessors.

In an interview after the prayer, Imam Sadanu Bantaje, the Chief Imam of the TY Danjuma Government House Jumma’at Masjid, expressed appreciation for the contributions of journalists to society.

Imam Bantaje emphasized the importance of adhering to professional ethics to ensure objectivity in reporting and prayed for God’s protection and reward for their service to humanity.

Additionally, in an interview, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, the State Chairman of the ruling PDP, described the relationship between the government and the media in the state as cordial and admirable, urging for its continuation.

He commended the NUJ leadership under Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen for their commitment to the union’s development and prayed for their continued strength, congratulating them on the 70th anniversary of the NUJ.

Attending journalists, including the chairpersons of Shinmo FM, FRCN Gift FM Jalingo, and the state chapter of SWAN, alongside a reporter from Worldview Magazine, Usama Suleiman, Ahmed Yerima, Sani Sulaiman, and Mansir Audu, praised the leadership of the NUJ and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding professional ethics.

Meanwhile, a special Church service is also schedule to hold on Sunday, 13th April 2025, at the Supreme King’s Church in Jalingo.
