Taraba Police Command Apprehends Abductors Of FUW Students

…Recovered 7 AK47 Riffles, Others

The Taraba State Police Command has successfully apprehended 28 suspects and seized various items from high-level criminals operating in the state. 

During a recent press briefing in Jalingo, the State Commissioner of Police, David Iloyonomon, provided an update on the command’s recent operations and achievements in ensuring the safety and security of the public and their property in the state.

The recovered items included an assortment of weapons, such as 7 AK47 rifles, 2 locally made pistols, 1 Beretta, 5.5mm live ammunition, 128 7.62mm ammunition, 1 Honda Motorcycle, 2 live cartridges, 3 knives, 1 cutlass, and 1 axe.

In addition, 1 plier, 1 ITEL handset, 1 plate number, 1 tricycle, 850,000 naira cash, 102 cows, 1 LAR rifle, 2 SMG rifles, 1 fabricated AK47 rifle, and 14 magazines were also recovered.

“The Police Command has made significant strides in combating various forms of criminal activity. For instance, on 22/03/2024, police operatives in Gembu Division apprehended Abdulkarim Ibrahim, a suspected kidnapper who had been terrorizing villages in Sardauna LGA. 

“Investigations are ongoing to capture his accomplices. Similarly, on 01/04/2024, unknown gunmen kidnapped two workers at an eatery owned by Moses Innocent Lyntapwa of Ranok Estate along the Zaki-Biam/Wukari road. 

“On 04/04/2024, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping team arrested Garba Yahaya of Ali Yola village, Gassol LGA, and Abdullahi Usman Mohammed of Angwan Galadima, Yola town, for their involvement in a series of kidnappings in Gassol LGA. 

Additionally, on 13/03/2024, a team of police attached to the Department of Operations intercepted one Honda motorcycle carrying two passengers along Tella to Dan’anacha Road. 

During the search, the rider and the passenger fled, leaving behind their motorcycle and belongings. A thorough search of the bag uncovered one locally-made pistol and thirty rounds of 5.5mm live ammunition. 

On 31/03/2024, a team of Mobile Police led by the Commanding Officer 67 PMF recovered two AK47 rifles loaded with 7.62 mm live ammunition. 

On 18/04/2024, police operatives in conjunction with operatives from FID-STS FHQ raided a kidnapper’s hideout at Kiyayo village along Kente road Wukari LGA of Taraba State, recovering one AK47 with an empty magazine after a shootout with the criminals. 

The Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude to the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, for his unwavering commitment to the fight against crime and his continuous support for security agencies in ensuring a peaceful and secure state. 

In conclusion, CP David Iloyonomon stated that the State Police Command, likewise, remains resolute in its aim to uphold law and order and encourages the public to continue to supply crucial information to aid in the fight against crime.
