The Taraba State Government is dedicated to transforming the state into a center for sports excellence and offering opportunities for athletes to compete nationally and internationally.
The State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Joseph Joshua, made these remarks during a press briefing in his office before the 2024 Olympic Day Run set for Saturday, June 29, 2024.
He highlighted the Olympic Day Run as a symbol of unity and global harmony that promotes physical activity, essential for people’s overall well-being.
He emphasized that the event is more than just a race; it is a celebration of the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.
Joshua pointed out that the day provides an opportunity for people of all ages and athletic abilities to come together to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, regardless of their background.
He mentioned that this year, they anticipate a significant turnout from participants in various communities across the State, all eager to be part of this remarkable occasion.
Moreover, he disclosed that the event will not only feature a run but also activities highlighting the importance of health, fitness, and teamwork.
In addition, he informed that participants can look forward to a day filled with enthusiasm, camaraderie, and the joy of shared accomplishment.
Furthermore, Joshua explained that Governor Agbu Kefas has played a crucial role in initiating and supporting various sports programs aimed at nurturing talent and promoting physical activity among the youth.
He stated that Governor Kefas believes that sports are a vital tool for community building and youth empowerment.
He noted that the Governor has consistently emphasized the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.
“In this second year of the Moving Forward administration, we are going to focus on significant investments in sports infrastructure, including the renovation of stadiums across the state.
“These initiatives, according to him are aimed at providing our athletes with the resources and support they need to excel.
“As we move forward, we encourage all Tarabans to embrace the spirit of the Olympic Day Run. We are particularly proud to have the support of Governor Agbu Kefas, a staunch advocate for sports development in the State.
“Let this day inspire you to incorporate more physical activity into your daily lives and to support the development of sports in our communities. Together, we can create a healthier, more active Taraba State, where the values of sportsmanship and community thrive.
“Let’s make this year’s Olympic Day Run an unforgettable celebration of unity and fitness,” Joshua appealed.
The Commissioner announced that the event would commence at 7 am from the mile six roundabout and end at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.
