Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has presented the 2026 budget to the Taraba State House of Assembly.
Dr Kefas laid down a total budget estimate of N650.63 billion for the fiscal year at the Hallow Chamber of the House, on Wednesday.
It was tagged as the “2026 Budget of Demonstration.”

Speaking during the presentation, Governor Agbu Kefas said that the budget was crafted to fast-track development and improve the welfare of the people across the State.
He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to capital-driven growth and sound fiscal policies aimed at transforming infrastructure, expanding energy access, and strengthening social development.
While breaking it down, Governor Agbu Kefas said that ₦457.74 billion (70.36%) of the budget is allocated to capital projects, while ₦192.89 billion (29.64%) is earmarked for recurrent expenditure.
According to him, seven out of every ten naira will be channelled to physical development.
Additionally, the governor noted that the budget would be financed through a combination of FAAC allocations, IGR, aids and grants, as well as capital development receipts.
He further revealed plans by the state to expand digital revenue systems and explore new income streams in agriculture, mining, property, business, and tourism.
However, Dr Agbu Kefas described energy as the backbone of economic development and pledged investments in solar mini-grids, hybrid rural electrification, street lighting, and power supply for schools, hospitals, markets, and agro-processing centres.
Sectoral allocations in the proposed budget include:
Roads and Transportation: 19.84%
Education and Skills Development: 15.98%
Healthcare: 6.19%
Agriculture and Food Security: 4.83%
Water and Sanitation: 3.19%
Security and Emergency Services: 2.96%

Meanwhile, the governor and his entourage were received by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kizito Bonzena alongside other lawmakers.
