Taraba State female skaters have made the state proud by clinching a gold medal and a bronze medal at the just concluded International Skating Competition held in Calabar, Cross River State.

The event, which served as part of the buildup to the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled to be held in Ogun State, witnessed fierce competition from top skaters across the country.

Despite the stiff challenge, the Taraba team showcased exceptional talent, resilience, and sportsmanship.

In a statement celebrating the achievement, the skaters were commended for their “hard work, dedication, and passion” which “truly shone through on the rink.” The success was described as a significant boost for sports development in the state.

Support for the team came from several notable individuals whose contributions were instrumental to this success.

They include Hon. Bon Williams Emmanuel, Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development, A two-time African badminton Champion, Hon. Emmanuel George, Senior Special Assistant on Youth Affairs, and Hon. Gara Nongha, Taraba State Youth Chairman

Their outstanding support and commitment to youth and sports development in Taraba State were acknowledged with deep appreciation.

Observers say the victory underscores the need to invest more in local sports talents. “Taraba State has potential players that need close attention. Let’s put our hands together to revive the deteriorating state of sports in the state,” a stakeholder remarked.

As preparations continue for the National Sports Festival, stakeholders are calling for increased investment in training, facilities, and athlete’s welfare to ensure Taraba continues to compete and win at the national and international levels.
