SISDEV Plants 50 Trees At Annoor International Academy To Combat Desertification And Drought

As the world commemorate day to Combat Desertification and drought, students of Annoor international Islamic Academy Bauchi have been advised to contribute their own quota in order to tackle desertification and drought in their immediate environments.

The desk officer of Savannah institute for Sustainable development Munira Dalha Umar gave the charge during the commemoration of this year’s world day to Combat Desertification and drought with the students of environmental club of Annoor International Islamic Academy in Bauchi.

Munira Dalha who is also the lead head schools environmental club said the essence of the celebration was to change the narrative for students to know the importance of environment and how to take good care of it with a view to combat desertification and drought.

According to her, desertification is slowly encroaching nation’s environment hence the need to people to play their own role in planting of trees in order to make the environment green.

The SISDEV Officer revealed that they had planted 50 seedlings in Annoor International Islamic Academy, hoping to do more in the near future with a view to make Bauchi look green.

In his remarks, the Principal Annoor International Islamic Academy, Haruna Muhammad Haruna commended the Savannah Institute for sustainable development SISDEV for selecting their school to commemorate World day to Combat Desertification and drought, while promising for continued collaboration with relevant NGOs with a view to make the world green.

Some of the students interviewed during the exercise expressed their gratitude to SISDEV while promising to use the knowledge gained in order to combat desertification and drought in their immediate environment.

About 50 different seedlings were planted by the students during the exercise.
