100 registered and trained leaders under Sa’i‘anwara’I’jumai Consultaire Limited (SCL) Project Juriya Mutual Trust Groups (MTGs) in Adamawa State have been presented with their certificates of Registration as approved by Cooperatives Societies Regulation Agency in Adamaawa State as well as record books & leadership management training materials.
In his presentation during the event held at Bawuro Hall, City Green Hotel Yola, the SCL’s Agricultural Financial Consultant, Mr Joram Nganga, explained that the programme is aimed at improving the living status of farmers to be self reliant as the MTG Leaders prepare to return to their communities to begin the process of managing their various groups as trained by SCL.
On his part, the Adamaawa State SCL Project Juriya MTGs project Coordinator Mr. Hibiya Kefas, said, the project which is in partnership with Mastercard Foundation is designed to bring small holder farmers who are participating in Regenerative Agriculture practices (Organic farming) into groups so as to leverage economies of scale through cooperative management systems.
Kefas explained that the project taught farmers groups on leadership qualities, Financial Inclusion, guidelines on increasing farming productivity and regenerative agriculture.
As of today, 5,571 small holder farmer households have been on boarded in Adamaawa State, 3,726 females of whom 2,097 are female youth, 142 are people living with disability and 443 are internally displaced persons.
Furthermore, 25 Field Agents (FA) have been trained on Regenerative Agricultural integrated Crops, trees and Livestocks (RA ICTL) practices and serve as RA Ambassadors in their communities which will contribute to youth in work target.
”As at October, 2023, 4,760 households have received farm inputs (Seeds, seedlings and compost.) Inputs have also been distributed to 23 demo plots, 4,760 households have had their farms validated for adoptions of RA ICTL”.
SCL is an indigenous private sector agro-allied enterprise established in year 2010 with purpose to Seed diverse and interconnected African agri-business models for future food systems to enable the rise of purposeful and sustainable communities .
Some advantages of the Project includes restoration of the soil health, boosting farm resilience enhancing biodiversity, bolstering local economies, securing food supply and mitigating climate change.
SCL Project Juriya is being implemented in 3 states that includes Kaduna, Adamawa and Nasarawa states.
In Adamaawa State, the project is implemented in 10 LGA’s, namely: Yola North, Yola South, Mubi North & South. Others are Fufore, Demsa, Mayo-belwa, Girei, Michika & Madagali.
Obioma C’ezirioha from Rahama Farmers MTG & Rebecca Sini of Alheri MTG who shared their experience to Sahel Reporters, said the project has provided an alternative and easier means of improving their livelihood through agriculture regenerative agriculture.
