Road Crashes Kill Passengers Than Drivers – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned that road traffic crashes kill more passengers than drivers in the country.

The Bauchi state Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Istifanus Ibrahim gave the warning in Bauchi on Friday during a town hall meeting with stakeholders as part of activities for the 2024 Ember months campaign.

According to him, it is on the basis of this that the Federal Road Safety Corps is massively sensitising passengers on the need to speak up against dangerous and reckless driving during the ember months and beyond.

“Today’s town hall meeting is the last in the series of the events lined up for the flag-off of the ember months campaign in the state.

“We have had a press briefing and roadshow where people were sensitised on the need to speak up against dangerous driving.

“It is on record that Road Traffic Crashes kill more passengers than drivers. It’s a social problem bedeviling our society and has impacted negatively on both human and material resources in Nigeria.

“Being a security threat for the survival of our dear nation, all hands must be on deck to arrest this social problem,” he said.

Ibrahim lauded all stakeholders and members of the press for contributing positively to the success of the ember months campaign in the state, urging them to contribute their quota during the town hall meeting.

Also, Mrs Theresa Omaga, the Bauchi state Coordinator of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), said that a driver should know how to drive well to save lives.

She urged passengers to change their orientation by speaking up and caution the drivers anytime they are driving recklessly.

Omaga promised to mobilise all the officials of the agency across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state to pass the messages to the people at the grassroot.

Stakeholders present at the meeting included officials from the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Bauchi State Road Transportation Agency (BAROTA) and media practitioners.

Others are members of the National Union of Roads and Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), officials from Immigration, NSCDC among others.
