The Adamawa State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, has commenced the distribution of trucks of rice and sugar to vulnerable residents across the 21 local government areas of the state as part of its Ramadan support initiative.
Flagging off the exercise along Numan Road in Yola on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Yayaji Mijinyawa, said the food items were procured to cushion the hardship faced by vulnerable persons, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
He explained that each local government area would receive 1,200 bags of food items, comprising 600 bags of rice and 600 bags of sugar, to be distributed to deserving beneficiaries.
The commissioner urged local authorities to ensure the judicious distribution of the relief materials to the intended beneficiaries, noting that the gesture was undertaken in good faith to support the less privileged in society.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Suleiman Gangkuba, assured that the items would be fairly distributed to the downtrodden across all 21 local government areas.
It will be recalled that the government carried out a similar intervention during the Christmas season last year as part of efforts to provide relief to residents during festive periods.
