President Tinubu’s Visit To Katsina: A Misplaced Priority Amid National Tragedies

By Muhammad Muhammad Zanna

The recent visit of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to Katsina State this week does not reflect the most pressing needs of the country at this critical time.

This visit comes in the wake of devastating fire outbreak in Plateau State, and recent midnight explosion at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the incidents that claimed lives and destroyed livelihoods.

These tragic events have left many families in mourning and countless others struggling to recover their means of survival.

The markets affected by these fires are not just trading centers; they are economic lifelines for thousands of Nigerians. In a period when the nation is still grappling with economic hardship, these communities urgently need federal attention and assistance to rebuild and stabilize their local economies.

Instead of focusing on relief efforts or visiting the affected areas to show solidarity and leadership, President Tinubu chose to travel to Katsina. For many, this decision reflects a lack of prioritization and empathy from the highest office in the land.

At a time when Nigerians expect swift and compassionate action, the President’s itinerary sends the wrong message — that political visits take precedence over humanitarian crises. Leadership should be about presence in times of need, and right now, the people of Maiduguri and Plateau need that presence more than ever.
