The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in the illegal production of counterfeit herbicides within a residential area of the Bauchi metropolis.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the arrests were made on Saturday, May 3, following credible intelligence that led detectives from the Command’s Monitoring Unit to a house in the Unguwan Liman area of Inkil.

The suspects—Usman Suleman (21) of Karofin Madaki, Ahmad Musa (20) of Wuntin Dada, and Muhammad Nuhu (17) of Fadaman Mada—were caught red-handed while mixing and packaging fake herbicides.

“The team recovered twenty-six cartons labelled Force Up, one empty carton of Gobora, two plastic drums containing suspicious liquid, and over a hundred empty one-litre containers labeled Force Up,” the statement revealed.

Other materials recovered at the scene included sealing tapes, scissors, super glue, leather packaging, charcoal, welding spoons, a charcoal stove, and various cover seals—tools believed to be used in the mass counterfeiting operation.

Further interrogation led to the arrest of another suspect, Muhammad Muhammad (36), also of Fadaman Mada, who was allegedly a key figure in the operation.

CSP Wakil assured that investigations are ongoing, emphasizing the Command’s resolve to dismantle all forms of illegal activity in the state.

“This operation underscores our commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that unscrupulous elements do not endanger lives through the distribution of harmful substances disguised as agricultural products,” he stated.

He called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
