A non governmental organisation, Hopeful Women Initiative is advocating for increase women’s participation in decision-making processes at the local, national and international levels, in alignment with national and international gender equality and women’s empowerment goals.
To achieve this, the NGO with its collabotators has organized a one day workshop in Yola with participants from ministries, departments and agencies as well as community stakeholders from Mubi North, Mubi South, Jalingo and Gassol LGAs of Adamawa and Taraba States on 16th March, 2024.
HWI in a statement made available to this platform says the training advocates for gender-responsive and inclusive decision-making processes that take into account the perspectives and needs of women’s full participation.
“To foster collaboration and partnerships between MDAs, community stakeholders, civil society organisations, private sector entities and other actors to promote gender-inclusive decision -making processes and support women’s leaders, ” it says.
Meanwhile, the Hopeful Women Initiative with its collaborators has also trained 40 traditional, religious leaders and state actors on women involvement in decision making process and peace building.
The one day training which held on 18th, March 2024 at Modibbo Adama University Commercial Guest House, Yola, Adamawa state had 40 participants (women and men) including Persons Living with Disability (PLWD) across the four (4) targeted LGAs – Mubi North, Mubi South, Jalingo and Gassol attended.
HWI says the workshop was “to promote women’s participation in decision-making processes and peacebuilding by advocating for gender equality principles within traditional and religious governance systems as well as within institutions.
“To raise awareness about the important role that women play in promoting peace and conflict resolution, and advocate for an increased representation of women in peacebuilding initiatives and decision-making process.
“To promote a culture of respect and equality within formal and informal governance structures, urging for representation of women across all levels in peace negotiations and conflict resolutions efforts.
“To monitor the progress of women’s involvement in decision-making and peacebuilding efforts, and evaluate the impact of actions taken by both traditional and religious leaders and state actors to ensure gender equality and women empowerment principals are upheld.”
