The North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Adamawa State have reaffirmed their commitment to a stronger partnership in addressing the growing challenge of drug abuse, particularly among the youth.
This commitment was made on Tuesday when the State Commander of the NDLEA, Aliyu Abubakar, led a delegation of senior officers on a courtesy visit to the NEDC state office in Yola.
Commander Abubakar commended the NEDC for its impactful interventions across the North-East, including its support for security agencies.
“We are here to appreciate the Commission for the good work it is doing across the region and for security operatives,” Abubakar stated. “We will continue to partner with the Commission for the development of Adamawa State.”
In his response, the NEDC State Coordinator, Barr. Khalifa M. Lawan, thanked the NDLEA commander for the visit and lauded the agency’s unwavering efforts in protecting young people from the dangers of substance abuse.
Barr. Lawan reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the NDLEA through a holistic approach that goes beyond enforcement to include prevention and rehabilitation.
“The NEDC is committed to working closely with the NDLEA to curb drug abuse in our communities,” Barr. Lawan said. “Our partnership will focus on robust sensitization campaigns to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use, as well as skills acquisition programmes to provide alternative livelihoods for our youth.”
The meeting marks a renewed synergy between the two agencies, recognizing that sustainable development in the North-East hinges on winning the fight against drug abuse and empowering the next generation for a brighter future.
