The Kano chapter of N-Power Beneficiaries Forum (NBF) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The Forum made this known in Kano through a press release while celebrating with Mr. President on the anniversary of his meritorious and impactful one year in office especially in the areas of youth empowerment, economic stability and employment generation.
The N-Power scheme, a brainchild of the Buhari administration onboarded thousands of Nigerian graduates in its heydays but was disbanded by Dr. Beta Edu, the erstwhile Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under the guise of auditing and repositioning it for greater service delivery.
Comrade Nazifi Muhammed Abubakar, the Chairman of the Forum who signed the release on behalf of his colleagues hinted that, as a body dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of the N-Power beneficiaries, they’re worried over the vacuum created in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation with the sack of Dr. Beta Edu
“Considering the strategic importance of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in the lives of Nigerian youths and the less privileged, we constrained to request you act promptly without further delay and appoint another Minister who will not only identify with the less privileged but will embody true humanity.
“Mr. President, considering the collateral damage to underprivileged Nigerians if the Ministry continues to operate without a Minister, we respectfully urge you to appoint Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation due to her unwavering commitment and support to the less privileged including our colleagues who have not be paid for months.
“It is also worthy to note that Halimat Adenike Tejuosho has, over the years expended her hard earned money running into millions of naira to provide succour to the needy including scholarships to indigent students, palliatives to disaster victims and assistance during festivities to those who can’t afford the basics especially during sallah celebrations. With her antecedents, we strongly believe she’s the right person for the job”, the release noted.
The N-Power beneficiaries decried the rising spate of unemployment and its attendant impact on Nigerian youths and the less privileged, insisting that the only respite will be appointing Dr. Halimat Tejuosho whom they believe will use the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as a springboard to put an end to poverty and suffering in the country.
“Even as a private citizen, Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho has used the instrumentality of the Queen Adenike Tejuosho Foundation (QATFoundation) impact lives here in Kano and elsewhere. She holds the key to poverty alleviation and giving her chance will no doubt secure all our votes for you come 2027 as it’ll prove to us that you’re serious about fighting youth unemployment and poverty in Nigeria”, the release ended.
