NAqF Unveils Swimming Programmes, Emphasises Grassroots Development

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has announced a series of national swimming programmes and competitions for 2026, focusing on grassroots development and long-term growth of the sport. 

The programmes include “Swim to the Future,” the first-ever Inter-School Swimming Competition, and the National Junior Swimming Championship, “Swim for Life,” scheduled for Lagos.

Speaking at a press briefing, NAqF President Chamberlain Dunkwu emphasized the federation’s commitment to building a strong foundation for swimming in Nigeria. “We are unveiling a vision, a pathway, and a promise to the future of Nigerian swimming,” he stated.

Dunkwu highlighted the federation’s strategic approach to grassroots development, investing in school sports, competitive exposure, and talent production. 

He announced personal sponsorship for the “Swim to the Future” programme in Abuja.

Thrive Resource Centre has been appointed as NAqF’s marketing consultant, focusing on sustainable funding and human capital development.

The initiatives aim to produce world-class swimmers, following Abduljabar Adama’s historic medal win at the World Aquatics Junior Championships.

Event Schedule for 2026:

– Swim to the Future – Abuja | March 7, 2026

– Inter-School Swimming Competition – March 25-27, 2026

– National Junior Swimming Championship (Swim for Life) – Lagos | April 2-4, 2026
