Denis Law, the iconic Manchester United forward fondly nicknamed “The King,” has passed away at the age of 84, leaving the football world in mourning.
Law, a Scottish legend and one of the greatest footballers of all time, died peacefully following a courageous battle with illness.
In a statement released on Friday, the Law family expressed their grief and gratitude:

Denis Law’s remarkable career, particularly his 13 years at Manchester United, cemented his place in football history. Scoring 237 goals in 404 appearances for United, his achievements extended beyond numbers, symbolizing passion, flair, and a unique connection with fans.
Born on February 24, 1940, in Aberdeen, Scotland, Law began his professional journey with Huddersfield Town in 1955. He later played for Manchester City and Torino before joining Manchester United in 1962 under Sir Matt Busby for a then-record transfer fee.
Law instantly became a sensation, scoring on his debut against West Bromwich Albion on August 17, 1962. His signature goal celebrations—arm raised, finger pointing skyward—became synonymous with his brilliance on the pitch.
Honors and Legacy
During his time at United, Law won numerous accolades, including the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 1964 following a stellar 30-goal season in 1963-64. He helped secure the FA Cup in 1963 and league titles in 1965 and 1967.
Although injury prevented him from playing in the 1968 European Cup final, his contributions to the club’s success were deeply acknowledged. In a poignant moment, Sir Matt Busby personally brought the European Cup to Law’s hospital bedside to honor his role in United’s triumph.
Law retired in 1974, leaving an indelible mark on football. His international career with Scotland was equally impressive, with 30 goals in 55 appearances.
