The League of Northern Democrats, LND, has expressed concern with the recent negotiations with bandits by some state governments over the insecurity being perpetrated in their communities.

Disclosing this position through a press release issued by the Assistant National Secretary, Mahmood Tunde Hassan, yesterday, the league condemned the act of any negotiations with bandits, describing it as “giving a criminal a press pass in the name of dialogue”.

The league insisted that such moves are unacceptable and amount to legalizing terror in society, advocating that the Northern Governors must assume responsibility for securing their states.

“LND expresses grave concern over the recent so-called negotiations with known bandits. While all legitimate measures to end insecurity are welcome. Giving criminals a free pass in the name of dialogue is unacceptable.

“Northern Governors must assume responsibility for securing their states, as excuses of structural constraints are hollow; no law prevents them from protecting their people.

“Therefore, the LND calls on all stakeholders to rededicate themselves to repositioning the North within the Nigerian mainstream by tackling the existential challenges holding our nation, ” the release stressed.

According to the release, in the critical stakeholders meeting held by the league on Monday, 22nd September 2025, in Abuja, it (LND) viewed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s ongoing political party registration process as transparent and fair so far.

It also urges INEC to sustain the feat on credibility for strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy so that Nigerians can always be given acceptable outputs.

“All pre-qualified bodies and stakeholders are called upon to respect the rules of engagement in the overall interest of Nigeria’s democracy,” the release maintained.
