In a historic move to honor the enduring legacy of the Fombina Royal Dynasty, the Lamido of Adamawa, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, has inaugurated a 19-member steering committee tasked with organizing a grand commemoration of the dynasty’s contributions to Nigeria’s evolution and development since 1809.

The inauguration took place on Saturday at the Council Chamber of the Lamido’s Palace in Yola, where the Lamido reaffirmed the vital role of traditional institutions as custodians and promoters of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

He emphasized that the event, initiated by the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria in collaboration with the Adamawa Emirate Council, is part of a broader effort to preserve and celebrate the heritage of Northern Nigeria.

Chairman of the steering committee and Grand Patron of the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria, His Royal Highness Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, expressed gratitude for the Lamido’s support and pledged to ensure the success of the commemorative events.

He outlined key activities, including a book launch on the Fombina Dynasty, the Lamido’s Crystal Jubilee Celebration, a seminar on 19th-century scholarly works, a museum and exhibition, a special Fada (Friday homage), a special Jumu’a (Friday prayer), a horse race competition/Kilisa, and other cultural showcases.

The 19-member steering committee includes esteemed traditional leaders, scholars, and historians.

The committee is chaired by His Highness Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli CFR, the Emir of Zazzau, with His Highness Alhaji (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar CFR, the Etsu Nupe, serving as Co-Chairman.

Other distinguished members include Malam Mustafa Aminu (Deputy Chairman, Galadima Adamawa), Alhaji Abdulkadir Aminu Mbamba (Wali Adamawa), Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Musdafa OFR (Sardauna Adamawa), Alhaji Abubakar B. Madawaki (Dallatu Adamawa), Alhaji Sadiq Umar Daware (Dan Lawan Adamawa), Alhaji Mustapha Dahiru Musdafa (Yerima Adamawa), Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed (Dujima Adamawa), and Engr. Umar Buba Bindir Ph.D. (Babban Mufti Adamawa).

Other notable members include Hon. Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji (Marafa Adamawa), Lawan Sheikh Muhammad Ph.D. (Zanna Adamawa), Alhaji Abubakar Jika (Ardo Nyibango, District Head of Nyibango), Malam Babayola Muhammadu Toungo (Special Adviser to the Governor), Alhaji Abubakar Magaji Fada (Wakili Tarihi Daura), Malam A.D. Garba (Wakili Tarihi Bauchi), Rt. Hon. Sadiq Ibrahim (Dan Buram Ribadu), Malam Yakubu Abdullahi Yakubu (Secretary, Wakili Tarihi Adamawa), and Alhaji Kabiru Bakari (Assistant Secretary, Tariya Adamawa).

The commemoration aims to spotlight the historical, political, and cultural significance of the Fombina Royal Dynasty in shaping Nigeria’s history. With the support of the Adamawa Emirate Council and the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria, this initiative promises to be a landmark event in Northern Nigeria’s cultural preservation efforts.
