The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed Yohanna Shehu K as the recognized Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State.
This was disclosed in an official response by the commission to a request for clarification made by A.A. Jatau and Co., a legal firm based in Yola.
The letter, signed by the Head of Legal Services on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, provided a detailed account of the leadership structure of the party in the state.
INEC stated that while it had earlier monitored the ADC State Congress held on April 8, 2022, where Mohammed A. Mustapha was elected as the State Chairman alongside a 44-man executive, a more recent communication from the party’s national leadership has superseded the earlier arrangement.
According to the commission, on January 17, 2024, its headquarters received a letter signed by the National Chairman and Secretary of the ADC, forwarding names of five interim or acting State Chairmen, including for Adamawa.
The letter officially indicated that Yohanna Shehu K is now the Chairman of the party in Adamawa State.
INEC added that the documents related to the original congress and the more recent communication from the party’s headquarters have been received and forwarded to its Adamawa State office for notification and consideration.
The confirmation of Yohanna Shehu K reflects the party’s internal restructuring and INEC’s alignment with the latest directive from the ADC national leadership.
