The Bauchi State chapter of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has announced that thousands of members from North East States will converge on Pambegua, Kaduna State, for the annual symbolic trek to Zaria
Malam Ahmad Yashi, Leader of the IMN in Bauchi, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi
The States include Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Plateau states
He noted that the Bauchi contingent alone will include over 1,000 men, women, and children.
“The trek, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is a key event in the Shi’a calendar.
“This year’s procession begins on Sunday, August 10, in Bauchi, passes through Pambegua, and concludes in Zaria on Tuesday, August 12, 2025,” he said
Yashi stressed that contrary to public perception, the movement does not block roads or obstruct traffic.
“We only use one lane for our procession. People should not misinterpret our activities,” he said.
He described the trek as a spiritual journey rooted in justice, sacrifice, and resistance to oppression.
“It is our way of keeping Imam Hussain’s memory alive and reminding the world of the lessons from Karbala,” he added.
According to him, the contingents will include students and supporters of prominent Shi’a cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky.
“Security, medical, and media teams will accompany the three-day journey to ensure safety and transparency.
“We have worked closely with local authorities to keep the procession peaceful and organized,” he noted.
Yashi urged participants to remain calm and law-abiding, while calling on the public to support and pray for a successful exercise.
He emphasised that the event fosters religious unity, peaceful coexistence, and moral consciousness, even in challenging times,” he said
