Fintiri Salutes Fallen Heroes, Promises Govt’s Commitment to Legion

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reiterated the government's support for the Nigerian Legion and the families of the fallen heroes, describing their sacrifices as fundamental to the peace and survival of Nigeria.

has reiterated the government’s support for the Nigerian Legion and the families of the fallen heroes, describing their sacrifices as fundamental to the peace and survival of Nigeria.

Fintiri spoke at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund, held at the Government House in Yola.

He reiterated his continued commitment to supporting ideas and initiatives geared towards enhancing the living standards of ex-service personnel and serving men and women.

Represented by his Deputy Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, acknowledged the sacrifices and gallantry of the armed forces in the face of insecurity, among other threats.

He pledged sustained collaboration with the Nigerian Legion and relevant stakeholders to ensure that those who served the nation with honour are not forgotten.

The remembrance according to him, is beyond honouring the fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, but also to appreciate the serving officers and veterans who continue to bear the physical and emotional scars of war and peacekeeping operations

As such, Governor Fintiri said the celebration stands as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and selfless service.

The governor, therefore, emphasized that the resilience and dedication of the Nigerian armed forces deserve not only admiration but tangible support.

Earlier, the state Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Master Warrant Officer Ali Mohammed (Rtd). explained that the remembrance celebration recognises and appreciates the sacrifices of the veterans in the First, Second, and Third World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, peace support operations, especially the ongoing war on insecurity in north eastern Nigeria.

He saluted the gallantry, courage, and sacrifices of men and women of the armed forces in facing the diverse and contemporary security challenges in the country.

The chairman lauds government ans donors who continue to support the Legion in diverse ways.

Highlighted in the 2026 emblem appeal fund were donations by groups and individuals, including the speaker of the state assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley joined the league of donors by donating five million Naira on behalf of the lawmakers.
