Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of PDP stalwart Thomas Godwin and the recent insurgent attacks in Damna and Banga communities of Hong Local Government Area.
During a walking visit to his hometown, Gulak in Madagali LGA, the Governor took time to pay a condolence visit to His Royal Highness Tol Huba, Alheri Bulus Nyako, as well as the family of the slain PDP chieftain, Thomas Godwin, over the unfortunate incidents.
While sympathizing with Tol Huba at his palace in Hong, Governor Fintiri expressed deep concern over Godwin’s murder. He disclosed that security measures have already been put in place, assuring that the perpetrators will be apprehended and brought to justice.
“I assure you that as the Chief Security Officer of the state, I will ensure that everyone involved in the killing of this young man is brought to book. Investigations have commenced, and we are already seeing leads,” the Governor said.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that such killings have no place in a state striving for peace, calling on the bereaved family and the community to find solace in God.
Regarding the insurgent attacks in Damna and Banga that left several families in mourning, the Governor also sympathized with the affected communities over the loss of lives and destruction.
He revealed that with the support of Huba Chiefdom and ongoing collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the government is committed to ensuring maximum security across the state.
Fintiri reiterated that his administration remains resolute in safeguarding lives and property, especially in rural areas.
He assured Tol Huba of his administration’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the Chiefdom to foster development. He also announced plans to launch an intensified campaign to return out-of-school children back to classrooms.
The Governor noted that upon assumption of office in 2019, UNICEF reported over 500,000 out-of-school children in Adamawa State. He stated that through efforts with stakeholders, the figure has been drastically reduced to fewer than 50,000.
This progress, he said, prompted the government’s decision to build additional classrooms and new schools to accommodate more learners.
Earlier, His Royal Highness Tol Huba, Alheri Bulus Nyako, described Governor Fintiri as a compassionate leader who always has the interests of his people at heart. He acknowledged the Governor’s comforting presence and noted that the creation of the Huba Chiefdom would be remembered for generations.
“What the Governor has done for us cannot be repaid. But we shall remain absolutely loyal to him and his administration,” he added.
The royal father prayed for justice to prevail in the case of Thomas Godwin’s murder, who was popularly known as Zafara.
After the palace visit, the Governor proceeded to the family compound of the 49-year-old slain PDP stalwart to offer condolences to his parents and siblings.
In a Related Development, Governor Fintiri also visited the family of the late Mama Yulyi Titi Andrawus, who passed away at the age of 84. At the residence of her son, Engineer Solomon Andrew Dacree, the Governor condoled with the family over the loss of their beloved matriarch.
He noted that every individual has their time and described Mama Titi as someone who lived a meaningful life, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
“Your mother’s lifestyle is a testament for the present and future generations. Her wise counsel will surely be missed,” the Governor stated.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Mama Titi’s soul and encouraged her children and the entire family to take comfort in God.
Mama Yulyi Titi passed away on April 7, 2025, at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Hong, after a prolonged illness. She is survived by nine children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
