Gen. Faransa Declares War Against Fake Revenue Collectors In Taraba

By Gloria M. Luka, Jalingo

The Chairman of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service, General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd), has taken a firm stance against unauthorized revenue collectors posing as official officers, declaring that the status quo will no longer be tolerated.

This announcement came during an advocacy visit from the Taraba Tax Justice and Governance Platform, where he engaged with Board members and Directors from the Ministry.

Faransa emphasized the need for clarity in the business environment, urging the public to be vigilant against these impostors who create confusion and undermine legitimate tax practices.

He said he is committed to enhancing transparency and accountability in tax collection which is expected to pave the way for a more secure and equitable financial landscape in the state.

The advocacy effort culminated at the board, where team lead Mr. Fidelis Nashuka articulated the mission of the Tax Justice Network and the collaborating governance platform.

Nashuka presented a comprehensive policy brief to each stakeholder, detailing strategies for effective tax harmonisation and highlighting the crucial role of collaboration among all parties involved.

He noted that the team has been working towards harmonizing taxes based on complaints from businessmen and women, particularly women, who seek a single area of focus for tax issues.

Previously, the group had critically engaged key stakeholders on Tax matters like the Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Council, Dr. Aminu Jauro Hassan, the Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Political Matters, Professor Josiah Sabo Kente, and the Bureau for Local Government, Traditional and Chieftaincy Affairs, spreading the same Gospel of Tax Harmonisation.
