By Sahel Reporters, Bauchi

The QM Foundation has called on the Bauchi State Government to place adult education at the heart of its development priorities, emphasizing its importance in empowering rural communities and fostering inclusive growth.

The appeal was made by Engineer Quaim Mahmood, Founder and Chief Executive Director of the Foundation, during the closing ceremony of a three-day Training of Trainers workshop for Adult and Non-Formal Education Instructors and Islamiyya Teachers held in Zaki Local Government Area.

Engineer Mahmood explained that the workshop was organized in response to Nigeria’s growing literacy challenges, particularly among rural women who still struggle to read and write.

He noted that, in today’s globalized world, literacy is essential for participation, progress, and self-reliance.

“Education remains the strongest tool for transformation,” he said. “When adults are educated, they pass the light of knowledge to their children and communities.” he said

Over the three days, participants were trained in classroom management, effective teaching methods, adult learning cycles, and micro-teaching.

They also learned to develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and evaluation tools suited to community learning environments.

To encourage sustainability, Mahmood pledged a monthly stipend of ₦10,000 to each of the 40 participants for five months, enabling them to extend the impact of the training across their communities.

Instructional materials including teachers’ guides, blackboards, and teaching aids were also distributed.

The workshop brought together instructors from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that no community was left behind.

Mahmood reaffirmed his foundation’s commitment to improving both formal and non-formal education across Bauchi State, describing the initiative as “an investment in people who teach, guide, and restore hope.”

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Malam Adamu Hamma expressed heartfelt gratitude to the QM Foundation and promised that the knowledge gained would be shared widely to transform more lives.
