A former member of the House of Representatives in Bauchi State, Aminu Mohammed, has urged politicians in Nigeria to prioritize national interest.
Mohammed, who is also the current president of the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, advocates for politics driven by ideologies and a desire to develop the system.
He emphasized that when a serving government fails to meet expectations, opposition parties can only succeed in seizing power through collaboration.
“For opposition to succeed, collaboration is crucial, not just to win elections, but to improve the system.”
Mohammed warned opposition parties against division along party lines.
Despite years of democratic governance, he observed that Nigerian politicians have yet to develop a sense of national unity.
“Politics is a two-way event ruling party and opposition.
However, in Nigeria, politicians prioritize personal interests over national needs.”
He noted that politicians often lack a clear blueprint for the positions they seek to occupy, highlighting the need for a more nationalistic approach to politics.
