Torrential rainfall that began around 1:00am today has unleashed devastating floods across several communities in Yola South Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of residents.
The affected communities include Yolde Pate, Tashan Sani, Modire, Shagari Low Cost, and Sabon Pegi, where houses and farmlands have been submerged.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that about ten lives may have been lost in the disaster, with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
In response to the incident, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, visited the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage and offer government’s support to the victims.
Emergency response teams from the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), security agencies, and volunteers have since been mobilized to evacuate residents and provide relief.
Additionally, the Adamawa State Police Command, in partnership with personnel of the 23 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Yola, have deployed to the flooded areas to support evacuation efforts and assist residents in distress.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, as calls for urgent humanitarian assistance grow across the affected communities.
