FG’s Policy On Livestock Development: Taraba Govt Committed, As Gov Kefas Approves The Creation Of New Agency

In his administration’s commitment to align with the Federal Government’s policy on Livestock Development, Dr Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, on Tuesday, 11 March 2025, approved the creation of a new Agency for the sector.

The Agency named “Taraba State Livestock Development Agency” is the fourth new Agency their establishment was announced in less than 48 hours by the Taraba state government.

The latest development was made public in a Press Release signed by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Chief Gebon Timothy Katabs and issued to journalists through the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Agbu Kefas, Mr Yusuf Sanda, in Jalingo, the capital city. 

The statement says the measure is to align with the Federal Government’s Policy on Livestock Development, positioning the State as a major player in the sector considering its vast livestock population and natural resources.

Reacting to the development in an interview, the Taraba State Chairman of RIFAN, Hon. Tanko Bobboi Andami, praised Governor Kefas for his foresight in establishing the four new agencies.

According to him, the Livestock Development Agency is a crucial step toward enhancing agriculture and boosting the local economy in the state.

Hon. Andami noted that the agency will improve livestock management, provide veterinary care, promote modern ranching techniques, reduce farmer-herder conflicts, and create economic opportunities for livestock farmers.

He further stated that other new agencies will also provide job opportunities for the unemployed youth, skills acquisition, and empowerment, as well as ensure environmental sanitation, among others across the state.

Recall that Governor Agbu Kefas, on Monday, 10 March 2025 approved the creation of the Taraba State Youth Development Agency, the Taraba State Sanitation Agency, as well as the Taraba State Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Solution Agency.
