The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, has announced the approval of a licence for the construction of a new refinery.
The approval given to a company named Process Design and Development Limited is to establish and construct a new twenty seven thousand barrels per day refinery in Dole-Wure, Akko area of Gombe State.
PUNCH NEWS correspondent gathered that Authority Chief Executive presented a Licence to establish a new twenty seven thousand BPSD Refinery to the Managing Director/ CEO of Process Design and Development Limited.
Though, despite this increase in the number of refineries, most of them remain dilapidated, with many not functioning at full capacity or efficiently.
A background check using NG. Checks showed that the company is located in Kano with registration number 487883. Its directors are Adamu U. Sanda, Abdulkadir Umar, Umar S. Umar and Bashir Umar.
It could be recalled that early this week, the sixty thousand capacity Port-Harcourt refinery resumed operations after years of inactivity, drawing initial praise from Nigerians and industry stakeholders.
The PUNCH exclusively gathered that, the newly rehabilitated complex of the old Port Harcourt refinery, which had been revamped and upgraded with modern equipment, is operating at a refining capacity of seventy per cent of its installed capacity.
NNPC added that diesel and Pour Fuel Oil would be the highest output from the refinery, with a daily capacity of one point five million litres and two point one million litres, respectively.
