The Security Taskforce Committee set up by the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to assess the critical damage to infrastructure and the resettlement of the Bissaula community in the Kurmi local government area of the state has visited the area.
The on-the-spot assessment visit is to see the level of damage and come up with a comprehensive report on how the government will leverage the situation.
Members of the Taskforce Committee, on arrival at Bissaula village, were welcomed by jubilant villagers full of excitement.
Shortly after the brief welcome experience, members of the committee who embarked on the tour of properties destroyed during the crisis that struck the area some time ago expressed shock over the level of devastating effects of destruction.
Mostly affected areas were schools, clinics, markets, town halls, motor parks, and the palace of the Traditional ruler in the area.
Also destroyed are the offices of the security agencies and their residents, as well as their security apparatus, such as mobility and gadgets.
The committee saddled with the responsibility to take stock of the damage to the government and members of the community property to enable the government response appropriately, has top government functionaries as members.
Speaking during the assessment visit, the Secretary of the committee who is from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the State, Mr. Koku Agbu Koku, said the committee was given two mandates to carry out its assignment.
These include a short-term plan that aims to find the modalities of providing immediate security, water, and other necessities of life to the people, while the long-term plan is to look at critical damage to infrastructure to report back to the government to give the people a sense of belonging.
Also commenting, some members of the committee said the assessment visit had given them a clear picture of the damage done in the area, pledging that the committee would do a thorough job for the benefit and the development of the area.
On his part, the Chairman of Kurmi local government council, Hon. Moses Maihankali, thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for setting up the committee to look into the effects of the crisis and possible ways of forestalling future occurrences.
He pledged the support of the people of the area to the current administration.
However, some community members appreciated the members of the Taskforce committee for the visit, which they said has given them a sense of belonging and a clear indication that they have a caring and listening Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas.
