Decision To Rotate Ukwe’s Stool Was Done With Best Intentions- Gov Kefas

The Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas Ph.D says the decision to rotate the first-class chief of Takum among the three ethnic groups in the Takum LGA of the State was made with the best of intentions for inclusivity, fairness, and unity of the area.

The Governor stated this on Tuesday at the Rimi Primary School Takum, while speaking at the reception of the new Chief of Takum, HRM Barr. Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi.

Recall that on Monday the 13th of May 2024, Dr. Agbu Kefas presented a staff of office to the new First-Class Chief of Takum, alongside two other Third-class Chiefs at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Jalingo.

However, on Tuesday the 14th of May 2024, a grand reception was organized in honour of the newly installed monarch in his chiefdom where a large number of people joined the celebration of the new Chief.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Agbu Kefas described the occasion as significant progress in the journey towards unity and adherence to the rule of law.

Kefas emphasized that it is his solemn duty to uphold the principles of justice and fairness.

The Taraba State High Court judgment on Monday dismissed a case filed by the Kuteb ethnic group claiming that the Ukwe’s Stool belonged to them and kicked against the rotation of the Chief of Takum. 

According to Governor Agbu Kefas, the issuance of the Staff of office to the first Chief was to honour the rule of law and judicial processes. 

He, however, explained that the decision to rotate the first-class stool was made with the best of intentions.

Furthermore, the Governor urged the people not to relent in their decision to advance unity and peace.

To the newly appointed Chief of Takum HRM Barr. Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi, and two other Third-class Chiefs, Governor Kefas enjoined them to do justice and strive to guide their domains to greatness.

Additionally, the Governor made a case for the Royal fathers to serve with integrity, compassion, and steadfast dedication to the well-being of their people.

He implored the people to remain law-abiding and support his administration to deliver the dividends of democracy for them, and assured the youth and women of his administration’s plans to unveil empowerment schemes soon.

In his goodwill message, the Aku Uka of Wukari and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali called for support and collaboration of the people to the Ukwe to keep Takum in peace and work for its development.

The Man of the Moment, the Chief of Takum, HRM Ukwe Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi after appreciating Governor Kefas for ending the twenty-eight (28) years of Chieftaincy conflict in Takum, also assured him that he will strive to sustain peace, unity, and development of his domain.
