Osun State has become the latest beneficiary of the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s (ADF) National Food Intervention Programme, as the Foundation commenced the distribution of 30,000 bags of rice to economically disadvantaged residents over the weekend.

Flagging off the distribution exercise, Governor Ademola Adeleke—represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Otunba Tola Faseru—commended Aliko Dangote and the Foundation for their enduring commitment to combating hunger and poverty across Nigeria and Africa.

The governor highlighted that the donation of 10kg bags of rice to vulnerable groups across all local government areas of the state would significantly ease the pressure of the current food crisis, exacerbated by inflation and economic hardship.

“This initiative is a major stride toward addressing food insecurity and poverty in Osun,” said Faseru. “We deeply appreciate the Foundation’s efforts in supporting our people during these challenging times.”

According to him, the beneficiaries include people with disabilities (PWDs), the elderly, orphanages, youth organizations, farmers, artisans, and other marginalized groups.

Governor Adeleke also reiterated his administration’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens through various palliative programmes and welcomed continued collaboration with the Foundation to extend the reach of such impactful initiatives.

Victor Ejiro, who represented the Aliko Dangote Foundation at the event, stated that Osun holds a special place in the heart of Aliko Dangote, which is why it was prioritized in the nationwide programme. He noted that the 2025 National Food Intervention aims to reach one million vulnerable Nigerians across all 774 local government areas in the country.

“The rice distribution is part of our response to cushion the harsh economic realities faced by many Nigerians,” Ejiro added.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Olaniran Akanfe Atidade, also praised the Foundation’s gesture, describing it as a meaningful contribution to food security and poverty alleviation efforts. Representatives of beneficiary groups received their allocations and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

The National Food Relief Programme was launched by the Foundation in March 2025 with the goal of distributing over one million 10kg bags of rice across all 36 states and the FCT. Chairman Aliko Dangote had emphasized that the initiative is a direct response to the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, and reflects the values of compassion and solidarity.
