Civili society scaling up nutrition in Nigeria Bauchi state chapter CS – SUNNs has lamented the high menance of malnutrition among Children in Nigeria despite achievement recorded by developmental partners in the sector.
The CS – SUNNs Secretary Bauchi State Mrs Dabis Mwalike stated this during a Press conference in Bauchi on Wednesday to mark it 10 years impact Project in Bauchi.
According to her, Malnutrition remain a concern considering it threat to children, public health and the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria.
Dabis Mwalike reveal that through advocacy efforts in nutrition budget line has been created through Community mobilization and engagements in achieving nutrition goals done as well as support of religious and traditional leaders in creating awareness for uptake of nutrition services.
She added that with partnership with donors, CS-SUNN has been implementing both nutrition specific and sensitive interventions, stressing that Community structures Mama2Mama CHIPS are effective in reaching communities with key nutrition messages and mobilizing communities for the uptake of nutrition services.
According to her, the CS – SUNNs is facing a lot of challenges to include inadequate funding despite having lots of initiatives and innovations, lack of scalability of interventions among others.
Mwalike therefore recommended to facilitate grants for its members, coordinate joint proposal writing among member organizations, workforce planning, training, and distribution of health care personnel thereby seeking for more support from the LGA to sensitize and change negative perceptions and beliefs lingering on MIYCN by beneficiaries.
