Smoking tobacco has been identified as one of the most dangerous habits that can affect every aspect of human life.
This was revealed during a one-day sensitization workshop for civil society organizations and journalists organized by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) in Bauchi.

Addressing participants, the Executive Director of CISLAC, Mr. Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani said the essence of the workshop was to discuss and identify effective ways of reducing the demand and supply of tobacco in Nigeria for a healthier society.
Rafsanjani, who was represented by Muhammad Murtala, Senior Admin and Finance Officer at CISLAC in Bauchi, noted that the organization focuses on key thematic areas such as good governance, anti-corruption, health, peace and security.

He urged participants to step down the knowledge gained from the workshop to members of the public in their various communities.
One of the facilitators, Mr. Solomon Adogo, who is the Programme Manager of CISLAC in Bauchi, presented a paper on the overview of the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control emphasized the harmful effects of smoking and the importance of raising awareness to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with tobacco use, especially among young people.
Mr. Adogo reiterated CISLAC’s commitment to protecting future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental and economic consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke.

He also stressed the need for a comprehensive framework for tobacco control measures to be implemented by relevant parties at national, regional, and international levels.
