As part of activities to mark the 2025 World Contraceptive Day, the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board in collaboration with development partners has launched a series of activities aimed at increasing awareness and access to family planning services across the state.
Speaking during the commemoration on Friday in Bauchi, the State Family Planning Coordinator Maryam Mohammed reveal that the event is celebrated globally on September 26, focuses on creating awareness among women of reproductive age and ensuring they can access safe and free contraceptive services.
Maryam explained that the celebration began with a donation of commodities from implementing partners at the State Primary Health Care Board headquarters, followed by a road walk to key health facilities including the Specialist Hospital and Urban Maternity Bauchi.

According to her, the two-day event kicked off on Wednesday with outreach activities at three facilities in Dass Local Government Area, and continued in Bauchi metropolis where four facilities are offering services free of charge, and activities will later extend to Ganjuwa LGA, covering an additional three facilities.
She noted that a wide range of contraceptive methods including IUD insertion, implants, injectables, pills, and barrier methods will be available, except for permanent surgical methods.
Also speaking, Joyce Asanato, the State Program Officer for Demand Generation at the Society for Family Health, Delivering Innovation in Self-Care (SFH DISC 2.0) project, highlighted this year’s theme: “A Choice for All: Freedom to Plan, Power to Choose” which stressed the importance of ensuring that every women has the right to make decisions about their reproductive health, access contraception, and plan their future.

She added that SFH has also strengthened service delivery by training healthcare providers using empathy-based approaches to improve the quality of care and support clients in self-injection practices.
