The Afukonyo Babes FC of Taraba State has defeated Blessed KAA of Jos 3-0 in the ongoing maiden edition of the Northern Amateur Women Football League.
The match took place at the Jos Township Stadium, Plateau State, on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025.
The young, talented female footballers were full of joy as they received accolades from a large number of supporters across Taraba State who monitor their activities via social media outlets.
A cross-section of supporters in Jalingo, the capital city, in an interview with our Reporter, expressed delight for the victory and congratulated the team.

They commended the players for their determination and resilience, believing that victory is certain for the team to become champions by God’s grace.
Commenting on their Tuesday’s victory against Blessed KAA, the Taraba State Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Sani Yarima described it as unsurprising as he earlier predicted.
According to him, the female footballers are up to the task, considering the hard training they received during their camping at the Jolly Nyame Stadium Jalingo while preparing for the league.

“I’m not surprised because of the kind of training they had during their stay at the camp from their Technical Coach, Mr Emmanuel and the club’s Captain, Mss Angel for over three weeks.

“I will also attribute their performance and success to the support and encouragement of their sponsor, High Chief Ezekiel Irimiya Afukonyo. Kudos to Chief, who is a father to all,” Yarima reiterated.

Recalled that the first encounter between Afukonyo Babes FC of Taraba State and SIK Paragons of Jos on Monday, 21 April, ended 1-1.
Meanwhile, Afukonyo Babes FC will, on Wednesday, 23rd April 2025, engage Joe Kay by 3pm for their third match at the same venue.
