Bichi First FC secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Adamawa United FC in a Nigeria National League (NNL) Matchday Four encounter played in Kano, a game largely overshadowed by poor officiating.
The match was marred by controversial decisions from the centre referee, Mathew Danladi Tanimu from Plateau State, which drew strong protests from the visiting Adamawa United side.
Adamawa United appeared to have taken the lead in the 23rd minute of the first half when Clarkson David headed home a well-delivered cross from the left flank by Mona Emmanuel, but the goal was disallowed by the referee.
The decision sparked protests from Adamawa United players, leading to a brief stoppage in play.
In the second half, the home side introduced four fresh players, a tactical move that brought more balance to the contest. Bichi FC eventually broke the deadlock in the 56th minute from a set-piece taken from the edge of the 18-yard box. Abubakar (No. 3) converted the free kick to beat Adamawa United goalkeeper Victor Philimon, who was otherwise outstanding and tipped as a potential Man of the Match.
Both teams displayed quality football and competitiveness throughout the encounter. However, the standard of officiating raised serious concerns, once again highlighting challenges facing Nigeria’s lower leagues.
