The Joint Action Committee (JAC) representing academic and non-academic staff of Bauchi State-owned tertiary institutions has called on the state government to implement the new minimum wage for all workers in tertiary institutions.
Comrade Engr Abubakar Ahmed, the State JAC Chairman stated this at a news conference on Tuesday in Bauchi.
The tertiary institutions comprises of Abubakar Tartari Ali Polytechnic, College of Agriculture Bauchi, Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare and college of Education Kangere
The JAC has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Bauchi State government, starting from November 19, 2024.
Failure to address the minimum wage issue within the allotted time will lead to industrial action.
Ahmed said the staff members are currently burdened by inadequate compensation that falls short of the federal government’s minimum wage directive.

“We demand the implementation of the new minimum wage for all workers in tertiary institutions.
“Staff members struggle to provide for their families due to economic realities and harsh government policies.
“The migration of skilled professionals to neighboring states and federal institutions threatens the quality of education,” the Chairman said.
He added that the contributory pension scheme may impose a significant burden on workers due to existing financial deductions.
