In his effort to strengthen the educational pursuit amongst youth and children who are assumed as leaders of tomorrow, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Abubakar Y. Suleimanu has distributed free reading and writing materials to students.
In a statement signed by Muktar Garba Kobi, Spokesperson of the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly said the beneficiaries of this laudable initiative were drawn from various Primary and Secondary schools not peculiar to his Constituency but Ningi Local Government Area as a whole.
The statement reveal that the historic move was organized by the Speaker through his Nabalago Foundation with the aim of complimenting Government’s efforts in the educational sector.
“Giving more emphasis to the education by the Speaker is directly making present and future generations excel in divergent professions. The Speaker is known for always putting needs of the people he represents above any other thing thereby uplifting their living conditions and at the same time erecting sturdy legacies that would stand the test of decades. As the country passing through tough stage, Rt. Hon. Abubakar decided to reciprocate the kind gestures of electorates through the installation of social amenities in his Ningi Central Constituency and Bauchi State at large”, the statement added.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area, Nasiru Zakarai commended the Speaker for coming up with the distribution of study materials which was the first in the history of Ningi.
He called on parents and students to rekindle their hopes through judicious use of the given items, he concluded by welcoming all and prayed for a hitch-free event.
Also speaking, wife of the Speaker, Hajiya Abi Hafsat AYS appreciated her loving husband for making the program a reality, she extended her bountiful commendations to pedant organisers for the colourful things put together to mark International Day of Education in Ningi and made it an unforgettable one.
While delivering keynote address, the Chairman House Committee on Education, Nasiru Ahmed Ala reiterated that the day is celebrated globally but the Speaker ensured that the future leaders in his Local Government are carried along.
He advised them to shun any tendency capable of antagonising developmental projects of the Speaker, he then described Hajiya Abi Hafsat as a pivotal pillar who always incites the Speaker towards life-touching initiatives.
“The giant strides of Governor Bala Mohammed who sleep less by trying to make Bauchi a hub of industrial and human developments requires the inputs from all of us. What we are doing today contributing and complimenting the State Government in education as no meaningful development can be recorded when the mass majority of the population are uneducated”.
“I promised you on behalf of all Honorable Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly that we will continue to do everything within the confines of law to add more values to the lives of people we represent, education and other important sectors will get more funds for the betterment of all and sundry”. The Speaker revealed.
During the distribution, a debate was performed on whose education is more significant for family and societal development between boys and girls. It was a fierce encounter as important points were presented by the two sides, at the end of the debate, female student emerged victorious following critical study of the points by the panel of judges.
The winners of the debate are Bilkisu Yunusa of GDSS Manu who took 1st position while Bilal Ahmad and Abdurrashid Saleh all of GDSS Ningi came 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
The State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru lauded the Speaker for commemorating the day by impacting on the lives of his constituents positively. He maintained that theme of this year’s fits the current situation in the country as uneducated youths are use by bad element to cause mayhem in communities.
He emphasized that the dilapidated schools in the State are being remodeled while constructing new ones in areas that have none for easy access to qualitative education. The Governor rewarded a student who came first in the debate with a cash gift of one hundred thousand naira (100,000) and fifty thousand naira (50,000) to students that emerged second and third.
