In a bit to encourage ownership of delivering innovation in self-care (DISC 2.0) interventions in Bauchi State, the Society for Family Health has organised an orientation training for 440 child birth spacing providers at the community level across 20 LGAs in Bauchi State.
Speaking while facilitating the session, State Monitoring and Evaluation officer SFH DISC project, Auwal Muhammad Habu, said the essence of the community orientation training and the kinds of feedback generated were inspiring as various stakeholders from different communities demonstrated high levels of commitment and acceptance to utilising and adopting DISC approaches in child spacing services.
The DISC M&E Officer noted that the essence of the training was to Familiarize LGA Stakeholders with the DISC project, its purpose, and planned activities, then seek appropriate support for creating an enabling environment for project activities to thrive at state and community levels of Bauchi State.
According to Mr Habu, the training avenue is a platform that would be used to enroll stakeholders on DISC 2.0 Digital resources and continue to encourage them to ensure ownership of DISC 2.0 interventions in their communities so as to see more families adopt this new innovation.
The DISC 2.0 capacity-building sessions enhance provider capacity, ensuring better outcomes for reproductive, maternal, neonatal, adolescent, elderly, and child health plusnutrition (RMNCAEH+N) services across Nigeria.
However, one of the impressive aspects that standout in the features of this training was the facility practicum session, which allows providers to practice empathetic counseling and learn how to better support clients in making informed family planning decisions.
In the training, FP providers were enthusiastic about the new abilities they had learned, which include Increased ability to recognize and support client needs through empathy counselling skills, update on the National DMPA SC and Self-Injection Expansion and Sustainability Strategy.
The Four key self-injection steps include – MAPS, NORMAL tool to address menstrual bleeding changes #C4C Choice book containing method comparison page, NORMAL tool, key messages and 3Ws for every method, medical eligibility criteria, and client-centered service provision.
